Inbound Marketing 101: Content Creation Ideas for B2Bs

In our last few blog posts, we’ve been introducing you to some of the ideas and concepts that B2B marketers can use to create an inbound marketing campaign to generate leads and to ultimately generate revenue. And as you might have guessed from the title, this one’s no different.

One of the major drivers of an inbound marketing campaign is the creation of fresh content. The problem with that is that it’s often difficult to figure out what content to create, especially if you work in a very specific industry or you’re struggling to think of new things to talk about. That’s where this comes in.

The first thing to bear in mind is that there are multiple different types of content. It’s easy to think only of blog posts, but written content can also be supplemented by video content, visual content and even audio content in the form of podcasts. Another option is to create audio versions of your blog posts so that people can save them for later and listen to them on the commute. That also makes your site more accessible to people with visual impairments.

In many ways, the type of content that you create (i.e. imagery versus video versus written) is less important than what the content is about. In fact, you’ll often find that the content idea dictates the form, so if there’s too much to cover in a video or a single image, it’s a sign that it might work better as a downloadable whitepaper or a series of blog posts.

Another thing to consider is that you can often repurpose content, so you can turn the script of a video into a blog post or take the statistics you used for an infographic to create a series of tweets. Be creative with it and consider augmenting your own content with user-generated content if you can convince your customers to share it. You could even turn it into a full campaign and provide prizes or incentives to encourage people to participate.

If you’re struggling to come up with content ideas in the first place then jot down a list of questions that you often get asked and then create content to answer them. If one person wants to know the answer then it’s a good bet that there are plenty of other people with the same question. On top of that, the next time you’re asked the question you don’t have to spend time answering it – you can just direct them to your content and leave them to it.
